Originally from the New York Metropolitan area, Mary Close received her BFA from the College of New Rochelle and continued her education at Parsons School of Design, The School of Visual Arts and the International Center of Photography, all in New York City. After graduating from college, she joined a weekly figure-drawing group organized by artists Aaron Shikler and David Levine. Since that time she has continued to draw and paint the human figure. Her many years as an illustrator and the weekly life drawing sessions honed her drawing skills and familiarity with different mediums. She has consistently worked in a representational style, focusing, until recently, on still life and figurative work, the many facets of human relationships and issues of aging. Her current work employs digital photography to explore various approaches to portraiture through the juxtaposition of multiple images.
